Heather Thompson is a native of North Carolina and focuses on traffic and misdemeanor criminal law.
Heather Thompson started her career helping families through divorce, child custody, and equitable distribution proceedings. Helping people through the emotional and financial strain of these cases was outstanding training for the transition to helping people facing allegations of criminal offenses.
In college, Heather studied International Studies (Economics) and Spanish, and spent time studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. After college, she worked for a Domestic Violence Offenders’ Program in Raleigh and then as a legal assistant before deciding to go to law school. In law school, she was active in the Hispanic Law Students Association, Law Journal, and Family Law Clinic, as well as numerous volunteer opportunities. Following law school, she focused predominantly on family law with a firm in Durham.
After starting a family with her husband Carter, she switched gears and went to work with her father and brother at their franchise car dealership in Burlington. There, she managed the accounting, payroll, human resources, employment law and compliance. When that business sold, we were lucky to have her join our team.
Heather’s compassion for others and breadth of professional experience make her a strong advocate and give her a wide perspective on how the law impacts our daily lives. She also speaks Spanish and can assist our Spanish-speaking clients.
Heather focuses on cases in the district courts of Orange and Chatham Counties. She represents people on a range cases including the following:
- Driving While Impaired
- Simple Assault
- Department of Motor Vehicle Hearings
- Traffic Offenses
Heather enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring our vibrant community with her husband, two children and two dogs.
